The Killeen community will come together this June to lace up their running shoes for a cause that hits close to home. The inaugural Kecia L. Davis Memorial 5K Walk and Run is set to honor a beloved educator while raising money for scholarships for local graduates.
Organizers say the event is a tribute to Davis, a teacher who left a lasting impact on students and colleagues before her passing. The 5K will take place on a Saturday morning in June, with a route winding through a local park. Participants can choose to walk or run the three-mile course.
Proceeds from the race will go directly toward scholarship funds for graduating seniors in the Killeen area. The goal is to help students pursue higher education, trade schools, or other career training programs. Davis was known for her dedication to student success, and supporters hope the scholarships will carry on her legacy.
Registration is open now, with early bird pricing available until the end of May. Race day check-in begins at 7 a.m., with the run starting at 8 a.m. Organizers are also seeking volunteers to help with water stations, course marshaling, and registration tables.
For those who cannot attend, donation options are available online. The event aims to bring together families, former students, and community members who want to celebrate Davis's life and invest in the next generation of local graduates.
