Special Education Students in Cody Create Guide To Every Playground In Community

A group of special education students at Cody Middle School has turned a classroom project into a lasting community resource. The students have created a detailed guide to every playground in the Cody area, now available at the Cody Chamber of Commerce.

The project began as a way to teach practical skills like research, writing, and map reading. The students visited each playground, taking notes on equipment, accessibility, and overall condition. They also photographed the sites and interviewed local families about their favorite spots. The result is a comprehensive booklet that describes each playground's features, from slides and swings to shade structures and restroom availability.

Teachers say the project helped students build confidence and teamwork. One student noted that they enjoyed testing out the swings at every location. Another said they liked being the expert on which playground had the best climbing structure.

The guide is meant to help families, especially those new to the area, find safe and fun places for their children to play. It also highlights the importance of inclusive play spaces. The chamber of commerce agreed to distribute the guide for free, recognizing it as a valuable tool for both residents and visitors.

School officials hope the project inspires similar efforts in other classes. For now, the students are proud to see their work in print and on display in the community.
