Communities Foundation of Texas to Invest $10 Million Into DFW Education Initiatives

Communities Foundation of Texas to Invest $10 Million Into DFW Education Initiatives

The Communities Foundation of Texas has announced a $10 million investment aimed at reshaping education across the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The funding will target three key areas: reducing chronic absenteeism, integrating artificial intelligence into classrooms, and creating clearer workforce pathways for students.

A significant portion of the money will go toward programs that address the growing problem of students missing too much school. Chronic absenteeism has spiked in recent years, and local educators say it is one of the biggest barriers to academic success. The foundation plans to partner with school districts to identify root causes and test solutions that keep kids in class.

Another slice of the investment will focus on AI in education. Rather than just buying new technology, the foundation wants to help teachers learn how to use AI tools responsibly and effectively. The goal is to prepare students for a job market where AI skills are becoming essential, while also addressing concerns about equity and access.

Finally, the grants will support efforts to connect students with real-world career training. This includes expanding internships, apprenticeships, and dual-credit programs that give high schoolers a head start on college or skilled trades. The foundation says these pathways are critical for closing the skills gap in the region's growing economy.

The $10 million commitment will be distributed over the next several years, with grants going to both nonprofit organizations and public school systems. Foundation leaders say they hope the investment will serve as a catalyst for broader change, encouraging other donors and businesses to step up.
