LA GRANDE, Ore. – A total of seventeen undergraduates from the College of Education have been granted over $35,000 in scholarships aimed at supporting their teaching field experiences in rural communities across Oregon. This financial assistance is part of a broader initiative to encourage and enhance the educational landscape in less populated areas of the state.
The scholarship program, funded by a grant awarded to Teach Rural Oregon, seeks to address the challenges faced by rural schools in attracting and retaining qualified educators. By providing these scholarships, the initiative aims not only to support the students financially but also to foster a commitment to teaching in rural settings.
Recipients of the scholarship are expected to engage deeply with the communities they serve, gaining valuable hands-on experience while contributing to the educational needs of rural students. This program represents a significant step towards improving educational access and quality in Oregon's rural areas, ensuring that future educators are well-prepared to meet the unique challenges of these communities.
