Northwest Nazarene University has become the latest partner in a nationwide network focused on expanding the country's talent pipeline for microelectronics and semiconductor manufacturing. The network is led by Boise State University and aims to address a critical shortage of skilled workers in the industry, a sector that is expected to see significant growth in the coming years.
The collaboration will allow NNU students and faculty to access specialized training, research opportunities, and resources that are part of a larger effort to rebuild domestic chip production. The initiative comes as the U.S. government invests heavily in semiconductor manufacturing through the CHIPS and Science Act, which has spurred demand for engineers, technicians, and researchers.
By joining the network, NNU will help create a more robust educational pathway from undergraduate studies to high-tech careers. The partnership also emphasizes hands-on learning and curriculum development tailored to the needs of the microelectronics industry. Officials from both universities say the collaboration will benefit students across Idaho and help meet the growing demand for a skilled workforce in a field critical to national security and economic competitiveness.
