Mendota Township High School District 280 has announced the winners of the 2026 Excellence in Education Awards, recognizing outstanding contributions from staff and community members. The awards, presented annually, highlight individuals who have demonstrated exceptional dedication to student success and academic growth.
This year's recipients include teachers, support staff, and administrators who have gone above their regular duties. Selection criteria focused on innovation in the classroom, mentorship of students, and leadership in extracurricular programs. The district also honored a local volunteer for years of service supporting school events and scholarship drives.
Superintendent Dr. Laura Chen praised the winners during a ceremony held in the school auditorium. "These individuals represent the best of what Mendota education stands for," she said. "Their commitment inspires both students and colleagues every day."
The Excellence in Education Awards have been a tradition at Mendota High since 2010. The program is funded by a partnership between the district and a local educational foundation. Winners receive a commemorative plaque and a small monetary grant to use for classroom resources or professional development.
The district plans to formally recognize the honorees at an upcoming school board meeting in March. Community members are invited to attend the event to celebrate the achievements of those who shape the future of Mendota students.
