The GaDangme Council has issued a strong condemnation following the exclusion of the Ga language from a major new artificial intelligence initiative spearheaded by the Ministry of Education. The project aims to integrate several local Ghanaian languages into an AI-powered educational tool, a move intended to enhance digital literacy and access.
In a formal statement, the Council expressed profound disappointment that the Ga language, indigenous to the people of the Greater Accra Region, was not included in the program's initial rollout. Leaders emphasized that such an omission overlooks the cultural and historical significance of the Ga language, which is spoken by a substantial population in the nation's capital and beyond.
The Council argues that excluding Ga from this technological advancement risks marginalizing its speakers and could accelerate the language's decline among younger, digitally-engaged generations. They assert that incorporating Ga is essential for inclusive national development and for preserving the country's rich linguistic heritage in the digital age.
Calling for immediate rectification, the GaDangme Council has urged the Ministry of Education to review and expand the initiative to ensure the Ga language is comprehensively included. They stress that true educational transformation must leave no community behind, especially in efforts that bridge technology and indigenous knowledge.
