Fresno State foundation awarded nursing education grant

Fresno State foundation awarded nursing education grant

The CSU Fresno Foundation has been awarded a state grant aimed at expanding nursing education and improving clinical training across the Central Valley. The funding is designed to address a persistent shortage of nursing faculty and to enhance hands-on learning opportunities for students in the region.

Officials say the grant will support faculty development programs, allowing current nurses to gain advanced teaching credentials. It will also fund new simulation equipment and partnerships with local hospitals, giving students more real-world experience before they enter the workforce. The Central Valley has long faced a shortage of healthcare professionals, and this investment is seen as a critical step toward closing that gap.

The foundation plans to use the money to recruit and retain qualified instructors, which has been a major bottleneck for nursing programs. Without enough faculty, many qualified applicants are turned away each year. By strengthening the pipeline of educators, the grant aims to increase the number of nursing graduates who can serve rural and underserved communities.

Local healthcare leaders have praised the initiative, noting that better-trained nurses will improve patient outcomes and reduce strain on emergency rooms. The grant is expected to have a lasting impact on the region's healthcare system over the next several years.
