Franklin Tech to hire fifth special education teacher amid IEP increase

Franklin County Technical School is moving to hire a fifth special education teacher for the upcoming school year. This critical staffing increase is a direct response to a significant 32% rise in the number of students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) enrolled at the school.

District officials confirmed the new position was made financially possible following a recent change in the school's health insurance provider. This strategic shift resulted in substantial savings of approximately $136,000 for the district. Rather than reallocating those funds elsewhere, the administration prioritized addressing the clear need for additional special education resources.

The growing number of students requiring specialized instructional plans and support has underscored the need for a lower student-to-teacher ratio within the special education department. School leaders emphasize that adding another certified instructor is essential to ensuring every student receives the focused attention and legally mandated services outlined in their IEPs. This investment aims to maintain the school's commitment to providing a high-quality, equitable technical education for all its students.
