'Cockroach' Protesters Dig In at New Delhi Site, Demand Education Minister's Resignation

A growing protest movement in India, known as the "Cockroach" campaign, has taken a defiant turn as supporters set up an indefinite camp in New Delhi. The demonstrators, who have occupied a central protest site, say they will not leave until the country's education minister steps down.

The movement, which began online and quickly spread across social media, draws its name from a viral metaphor used by critics to describe what they see as systemic corruption and neglect in the education system. Protesters, many of them students and young professionals, have pitched tents and organized round-the-clock vigils. They accuse the minister of failing to address key issues such as outdated curricula, teacher shortages, and rising fees in public institutions.

"We are here to stay. This is not a one-day show. We want accountability," said a spokesperson for the group, speaking through a megaphone to a crowd of several hundred. The camp has become a hub of activity, with volunteers distributing food and water, while others lead discussions on education reform.

Police have maintained a visible presence but have not attempted to disperse the crowd. The minister has not yet commented on the protest. As the days pass, the movement shows no signs of slowing, with more supporters arriving from other states. The demand remains simple: resignation first, then dialogue.
